MARTIN & ANNA ARNDORFER - SCHLEHE

Martin Arndorfer started taking on his family's plots in 2002, choosing the vineyards he wanted to work with from his parents’ estate, before completely taking over the winery with Anna in 2012. They oversee 16 hectares in the Kamptal region of Austria, northeast of Vienna, and produce affordable and approachable natural wines using only local grape varieties. Organically grown Grüner Veltliner, Chardonnay and Neuburger grapes are hand harvested, and gently macerated on skins. Fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts in large oak barrels, before natural malolactic conversion and ageing for a couple of months in stainless steel. Rich, deep amber in colour, with aromas of ripe golden plums, apricots, and peaches. Soft and velvety in the mouth with bruised apple, apricot, plum, rhubarb, and pepper and a bittersweet finish. A great introduction to the world of skin contact wine for the uninitiated, whilst offering more than enough for the converted.
