TSAREV BROD - PET NAT RIESLING

The idea for Tsarev Brod winery was born in 2001, when Ivan Ivanov, together with his family, planted the first acres of grape vines in the village of the same name. Situated between the two old capitals of Bulgaria, Pliska and Veliki Preslav, on the Danube plain, the winery was finally built in 2015, a full 14 years after the first 27 hectares of vineyards were planted. Grapes are grown using sustainable methods, hand harvested, and wines are produced using minimal intervention and fermented using wild or Bio yeasts.

Tsarev Brod are the first Bulgarian winery to produce a white-grape Pét-nat, the oldest method of obtaining a naturally sparkling wine. Hand-harvested grapes are pressed before fermentation in small vessels of 300l. Maturation on the lees lasts 4 months, followed by partial dégorgement, resulting in the wine being left with the fine lees. The result is a natural, beautifully golden sparkling wine. The aroma is dominated by apple, quince and citrus fruit notes. Medium-bodied, with a pleasantly fresh fruit-forward finish.
